Musician Bios

GARY MILLER (VIBRAPHONE & MALLETKAT) A graduate of Berklee College of Music, jazz vibraphonist Gary Miller has performed in concerts, clubs, and gallery openings, on radio and television, and in the recording studio. Playing a combination of original compositions, standards, and contemporary works, he has created his musical niche in the region of western Massachusetts. Gary has built his style on a lifelong relationship with the performance of music of many genres from classical, rock, country, to Broadway shows, film, and “world” music, as well as with his focus on jazz. Gary has performed in a wide variety of musical settings that include solo vibes, combos, chamber ensembles, big bands, and with dance companies. He has recorded several solo CDs of his own compositions as well as recordings in collaboration with other musicians. Gary is retired from his long career in education that included his many years as the Director of Music and the Chair of the Expressive Arts at Miss Hall’s School in Pittsfield, MA.

DAVID BANULIS (GUITAR/BASS) Dave is a lifelong guitar player who began playing with family members and eventually discovered jazz. He studied with Barry Galbraith and others and has developed the tap technique of playing as well as the more traditional plectrumstyle. He explores different guitar sounds and textures through playing acoustic, electric six-string, and electric twelve-string guitars. Dave also plays the six string electric bass, tuned like a guitar. This tuning has allowed Dave to incorporate chords and multiple lines into his bass playing. Dave has extensive performing experience including performances with the Banulis & Miller Family of Jazz Combos, Leah Carroll & Aviva, The Ransom Notes, Wholly Cats, Bruce Williamson, and many, many others.
