Photographers as Impressionist: a Group Show

Ever since the invention of the camera, photographers have been obsessed with focus, detail and the accurate depiction of textures. Modern cameras, even in the iphone format, produce astonishingly focused and accurate images , but throughout the history of photography, an alternate tradition has flourished beginning very early with the work of the Photo Secessionists. This other branch of the discipline has sought to depict fog and rain, mist and haze, darkness, shadows, and visual confusion. The works of Stieglitz and Kasebier come to mind. This branch of the tradition has always been heavily influenced by the visions of the Impressionists painters, and it is interesting to observe that photography and Impressionism have nearly the same birthday.
Impressionist photographers seek to present moods, emotions, and states of mind. They photograph fog, shadows and mist with a disconcerting mathematical accuracy
This show presents the work of six modern day Impressionist photographers.
